Three Suns (Tre Solar) Sweden

Sweden in the 1300s and plague stalks the land. The Crusades are in full swing and many of the healthy men are across the sea engaged in ferocious battles. Ships arrive every few months bearing terrible news and lists of the dead. Single mother Hanna, against all odds, receives word that her husband Ulf is returning. She leaves her young children in the care of their grandfather and begins a long and perilous trek to the sea to meet her beloved.

Like a classic Western, Three Suns sees a character set out on a simple journey only to have all their beliefs, fears and weaknesses tested to the extreme. When Hanna is not dodging bandits and butchers, she must hide out from crazed plague cults who sacrifice children in a vain attempt to cleanse the pestilence. An honest to goodness adventure story, the film is further enhanced by the formidable performance of Lena Endre (Faithless, MIFF 2001) in the lead role.

'Three Suns is a story about a strong-willed woman who's determined to act according to what she thinks is best for her family. It's a story about love and friendship in a time of disaster, with modern parallels for the taking.' -Variety
