Since its first edition in 1952, MIFF has proudly brought the world, through the moving image, to Melbourne. The festival has offered a unique space to engage with the silver screen and enabled a film-devoted community to thrive. Most significantly, MIFF has been pivotal in enhancing Melbourne’s standing as a hub for culture in Australia and abroad.
An astonishing 75 per cent of the festival’s income is generated through ticket sales and sponsorship, with 25 per cent coming from government sources. However, COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of this year’s festival for the first time in our 68-year history – posing unique challenges for MIFF.
COVID-19 has rewritten the circumstances faced by our cultural sector, creating huge challenges in continuing to connect with audiences. In these extraordinary times, an extraordinary response is required and MIFF is asking for your help.
