DOL: THE VALLEY OF TAMBOURINES (2006) [feature]

Kurdistan/Germany/France (MIFF2007,Jaguar International Panorama)
Director: HINER SALEEM

DOL: A traditional Kurdish tambourine, which is used for festivities in the Middle East, as well as for funerals. On the border of Iran and Iraq sits a small village, Balliova, which is controlled by the Turkish military, frequently at war with Kurdish guerilla fighters. Despite the hostilities, Azad wants to marry his fiancée, Nazenin, but fighting never stops, not even for a celebration. When their ceremony is interrupted, Azad is forced to flee, leaving Nazenin on her own. His escape hoists him in with other escapees - all with similar heartbreaking stories and all hoping to reunite, against the odds, with their loved ones. “Here our land is free. It's a new era for Kurdistan.” Hiner Saleem's Kilometre Zero featured in MIFF 06.
