EVERYTHING IS FINE (2007) [feature]

Canada (MIFF2008,International Panorama)

Finding his best friend's dead body was bad enough.

Then discovering three more of his friends also killed themselves, Josh is left - as a sole survivor of a suicide pact that he wasn't let in on - to mull over his friends' short lives and to make sense of it all. With more questions than answers, only Mia, the girlfriend of one of his late friends, can reach him and help him find meaning in their loss. This debut feature from newcomer Yves Christian Fournier is strikingly composed, lensing the Quebec suburbs with an enchanting stillness reminiscent of Gus Van Sant's work. “A paean to the deep banality of daily life, to a life with no ambition greater than to be lived to the fullest at every moment.” - filmmaker Yves Christian Fournier --- D Yves Christian Fournier P Nicole Robert S Guillaume Vigneault WS Seville Pictures L French w/English subtitles TD 35mm/2007/117mins
