Secret of a Painting (1961) [Short]

Romania (MIFF1963)
Director: Petre Sirin

Paintings in museums often bear no signature. This film demonstrates how experts, relying on costume, architecture and hosts of other clues, establish the period in which a painting was painted; then, through further study of style, brush technique, literary references, etc., they identify the actual painter. Well-known masterpieces from the Bucharest Art Gallery are used to illustrate the story. The commentary is in French.
