Monument to the Dream (1968) [Short]

USA (MIFF1969,Programme 37)

The city of St. Louis built a memorial to the pioneers who opened up the West. The immense arch was designed by Eero Saarinen, the man whose intervention ensured that Utzon should win the competition for the Sydney Opera House. This film is an account of the construction of Saarinen's steel and concrete arch. Another lot of patience. And hazards. But in this case—a truly triumphal arch.
