Another valley is to be flooded behind a gigantic dam to keep pace with the demands of the power-hungry cities. This one is in British Columbia. Another race is on: a race by men and machines against time, to clear the valley of usable timber before the flood. And the isolated lumberjacking community which works to gather the lumber is formed of immigrants from all over Europe, adapting to a tough, strange way of life...
