LA BALANCE (1982) [Feature]
An excellent, engrossing crime drama which interweaves action and character interest with contemporary Paris as its background.
By incorporating quasi documentary elements in a fictitious story, Bob Swaim has created a most authenic looking film which reflects psychological and social realities. The "Brigades Territoriales", detective squads that operate in different sections of Paris and rely heavily on a network of local informers, are looking for a new "partner' after one informer has been killed, apparently by a local gangster.
A young prostitute and her pimp, very much in love with each other, are pressed into co-operation with the police. Caught in a tragic crossfire, their relationship begins to come apart, and the ending is both cruel and ironic.
