Waltzing Mathilda (1985) [Short]
Directors: Michael Chataway, Michael Cusak
This acclaimed clay animation is choreographed to the tune of Australia's unofficial national anthem. Writer/ directors Chattaway and Cusak shot the film over four months, using a 60- year-old camera which runs at one frame per second. Their humorous dramatisation of Banjo Peterson's famous poem was approved by his granddaughters and transforms all the characters , with the exception of ill-fated sheep thief, into animals.
Shot on a set designed to replicate Russell Drysdale's Outback paintings, the film brings to life and explains the terminology of the lyrics.
