THE END OF THE WORLD MAN (1985) [Feature]
Ten-year-old Paula D'Arcy lives in the suburbs of Belfast. Her world, and that of her friends, centres on playing in 'The Glen', an overgrown wasteland in the neighbourhood that boasts a brook full of fish and wooded slopes offering a multitude of hiding places. Their native playground comes under threat from local authorities who intend to erect a parking lot on the site. Paula and her friends mount a concerted campaign to preserve their playground and they stand firm even when the bulldozer arrives.
Set against the background of a city embroiled in a very different kind of conflict, The End Of The World Man is a delightful and comic story of the children's unconventional fight to save their patch of green. It provides a refreshing view of iife in Ireland and has strong appeal to children and family audiences everywhere.
