Ballad of Reading Gaol (1988) [Short]

UK (MIFF1989,Experimental)

A film eulogy to Oscar Wilde is created using the words Wilde spoke from the dock of the Old Bailey: "The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name." It foregrounds homosexual desire and the legislation against it in a visual representation of the words that Wilde uses in this speech. A passionate and refreshing experimental short. - (TC)
