Rehearsals for Extinct Anatomies (1988) [Short]

UK (MIFF1989,Animation)
Director: Brothers Quay

An anonymous, anatomical specimen desires to disturb the wallpaper by exciting the single hair on its brow. A beautifully photographed black and white puppet animation in which calligraphers' compasses dance, computer barcodes vibrate and become wallpaper, and the camera moves in a machine-like pattern, seemingly determined by a numerical control program. This all occurs within a precisely defined 'decor' in which, if you watch carefully, you can catch a glimpse of the animator rushing around and setting up the vibrations for the puppets. - (TC)
