Tea and Pictures (1990) [Short]

Australia (MIFF1990,Fiction)

Tea and Pictures evokes the working relationship and friendship of two Australian artists, Thea Proctor and Margaret Preston.

Set in Sydney spanning the period 1923-33, the two collaborate on Home magazine, make prints and exhibit together. Their alliance was brought to an abrupt end in 1925 when Margaret Preston threw a cream cake at Thea Proctor at a party celebrating their joint exhibition. This film is a play on the possible interpretations of this event, the events which proceed it, and their reconciliation when they take tea and recall the incident.
