HUNTERS & BOMBERS (1990) [Feature]

Canada (MIFF1992,Documentaries)

In the Nitassinan forests of Quebec it is illegal for the Innu Indians to set foot on their traditional land. An area that once provided them with food and shelter is now a bombing range for the Canadian, American, British and Netherland air forces.

For hundreds of years after the European occupation of their native homelands the Innu were able to maintain their traditional culture and lifestyle, but since the 1950s, when they were resettled to make way for hydro-electric schemes, their society began to collapse from alcoholism and other social problems.

Juxtaposing military attitude and Indian lifestyle, this sensitive verite documentary allows the Innu to tell their story.
