In Between (1992) [Short]
Director: Robert Crusz
This latest film from Sankofa Film & Video is an extraordinary search for self-identity. An 'exploration-of-my-parents' film, it develops into a deconstruction of the classic polarities of our society. Exploring the position of displacement of a Dutch-descended Sri Lankan with an obsession for the West, particularly for England, the film questions the assumptions behind the categories of masculinity/femininity, art/science, instinct/learned, the East/West dichotomy, and the black/white division. This film is incredibly thought-provoking and refuses to leave the audience untouched, either.
