BEDEVIL (1993) [Feature]
Bedevil. Hell in three parts. And never before has hell been quite so exhilarating. Drawing together a trio of very different stories, each turning on a mystery, Tracey Moffatt's much anticipated debut feature is a stunning visual assault which envelops the ideas she initiated in her short film, Night Cries (MFF '90 award-winner).
Each story is a potent evocation of a ghostly tale; set in the 60s, Mister Chuck plumbs the depths of the secret about a missing US soldier; Choo, Choo, Choo explores the apparition of time and place through the ephemeral presence of a young girl; and Lovin' the Spin I'm In is a tragic tale of desire and murder.
Each chapter delves into absence, loss and death, as the characters are literally haunted by the past, and the present is bewitched by memories.
