How stays busy making business deals and dodging bombs during the raids on London in 1942. But his mother decides the dangers are too great for How to remain in London and sends him to stay with his aunt and uncle in the countryside. Shut out by the local village gang, How befriends the other local misfits, one a young German girl ostracised because of her nationality. When the weekly letter from his mother fails to arrive one Friday, How decides to go back to London to search for her. A film about acceptance, friendship and problems that come from being an outsider.
