BOY (2010) [feature]

New Zealand (MIFF2010,Next Gen)
Director: Taika Waititi

“Alternately zany, sentimental and remarkably insightful.” - indieWIRE

It's 1984, and one man rules the playgrounds on the east coast of New Zealand, a man capturing the imaginations and dance shoes of kids everywhere: Michael Jackson. For one 11-year-old boy, he's the best singer and dancer in the world. There's no bigger hero - apart from his absent father. But when his dad finally decides to return home after a seven-year absence, it's time to face up to reality… well, almost.

From Taika Waititi, the filmmaker who brought us Eagle vs Shark (MIFF 2007), comes a film swimming in the same imagination and humour, littered with a cast of quirky yet very real characters who are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Winner of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.

Director Taika Waititi is a guest of the Festival.
