PIGGIES (2009) [feature]
Director: Robert Glinski
A disquieting tale of teenage prostitution on the Polish-German border.
In the early 90s, with the border controls removed between Poland and Western Europe, adolescents in a struggling Polish town find a way to get a piece of the affluence to be found just across the river in Germany - by selling their bodies.
Screenwriter Joanna Didik lived for 20 years in the same town in which Piggies is set, lending a genuine authenticity to this tale of corrupted youth. Filmmaker Robert Glinski (Hi, Tereska, MIFF 2003) uses real location, non-professional actors and long lensing to create the illusion of documentary observation to lend the film a neo-realist rawness.
Filip Garbacz won an award for Best Debut Actor at the Polish Film Festival.
