ADRIFT (2009) [feature]

Vietnam (MIFF2010,Neighbourhood Watch)

“A subtle, melancholy exploration of erotic angst and uncomfortable awakening.” - New York Times

In steamy, rain-sodden Hanoi, a bride spends her wedding night waiting by the bed for her husband, as he drinks himself unconscious downstairs. So begins a marriage destined to be unfulfilled.

As the weeks pass her husband still seems disinterested in physical passion, yet the young bride finds she has no shortage of alternative suitors - with even her best friend secretly desiring her.

Challenging the taboos of traditional Vietnamese cinema, the complexities of life and lust take centre stage in the gorgeously shot Adrift, as a complex web of relationships are woven one upon the another.

Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2009 Venice Film Festival.
